- Events of the Day
- The
breakfast room was electric green with applied different sayings from
Classical writers with bolted together IKEA type maple furniture.
Food consisted of the usual Euro style of Continental meats,
cheeses, breads, and even sparkling wine.
- The
trail to sandstone mountains started just behind the hotel. After
crossing a small stone bridge, the cobblestoned path started to ascend
quickly. Sign makers were available which allowed ease of
navigation.
- Hiking objective was the Bridge of Bastei - a medieval wonder and Germany's first tourist attraction.
- Several
of the sandstone rock spires are connected by well crafted bridge that
allows for viewing of the Elbe river and distant towns and villages.
On the site originally was a Medieval village suspended by
ramparts on the mountain peaks. Included was a central gathering hut,
various housing, and even a sizable cistern.
- The
return hike was a pathway between large scaled gorge type boulders -
covered in multiple colors of green moss and ferns. In amongst
the forest area are guest houses serving as pensions and resting areas.
On several of the boulders were inscriptions from the 1700s - Medieval
graffiti. Interestingly, flash photos would reveal additional
layers of writing.
- Dinner
was an actual "noodle factory" serving home made dinners - with tables
outside and inside the "show room" of pasta bags. Most of the
restaurants have no smoking inside, the enjoyable covered exterior
tables would be ruined by a random smoker.
- Back
to the Villa Sophie - to open the windows on the non air continued
rooms. (Not required due to the cool mountain air)
