2006 Journey Day Twenty-Three
Stockholm

] The clear blue skies and warm temperatures continue. The hotel includes an extensive
breakfast buffet. Queues are not the custom and the usual is waiting for an opening - a chance - to secure a
a position. Liz has a new idea to print multiple language on a shirt that says "Stay Clear". After breakfast, it
was time for more biking.
Today's bike journey was in the Ladugardsgardet park area where many of the embassies are located. After
biking, the highlight today included the famous Vasa Museum. The Vasa was the highly embellished warship
that sank within 20 minutes of it's inaugural voyage in 1628. Two decks of 64 cannons above the waterline
and wind doomed the ship. Many in Stockholm watched the dismay; however, it's sinking in salt free cold
water and muck allowed 95 percent of the ship to be preserved. It was salvaged in 1961 and the new museum
was opened in 1988 after years of putting the "world's largest jigsaw puzzle" together and replace any needed
wood (of the original thousand oak trees used).
The remainder of the day was spent with "super Swedes" Patrick and Jessica viewing the City Hall, Old Town,
and repeat lunch at the Cafe Solo on the waterfront. After some evening biking and dinner at the outdoor Italian
restaurant Il Forno next to the 1904 Central Bath building, it was time to retire.
