2006 Journey Day Sixteen
Moscow

] First day in Moscow started with lunch at the hotel and then the concierge
recommended the City Tour company for a quick glimpse of Moscow. Our English guide was
stylish in the sense of heels with cobblestone walking - a common sight in the city.
The bus traveled to the main sights during the afternoon - Perimeter of the Kremlin, Gorky Park,
the new Greek Orthodox church (rebuilt in mid 1990s after Stalin destroyed it for the potential
largest skyscraper in the World), Moscow University, Sparrow Hill (high hill allowing for viewing
of the main city), and ending back at Red Square. The changing of the guard with the very high
stepping soldiers was starting upon our arrival. Two solders stand at attention to the left and
rights of the World War II memorial flame.
Since it was the weekend, many weddings were ongoing. Part of the tradition is placing flowers
and visiting various key monuments in the city. The stretched Hummers, Jaguars, Ford Excursions,
and Volvo S90s kept coming and coming. Not sure if there is a large middle class; however, one
can see examples of new wealth and old poverty.
